Dr. Dimitrios Hondros, MD, is a Board-Certified Family Physician and Primary Care Doctor providing primary care to adults, adolescents and children at Avance Care in Matthews, North Carolina.
He attended UNC-Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree, studying biochemistry. He then went to medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine on a full academic scholarship. He completed his residency at Atrium Health in the Charlotte, NC, area and was chief resident in his final year. He has worked as a family physician in Matthews, NC, since 2006.
Dr. Hondros focuses on providing compassionate care and treating each patient as an individual human being. His patients are his top priority. At age 11, he knew he wanted to be a family doctor. Complex and comprehensive patient care is his passion, and he incorporates team-based care to accomplish this. He has been involved with the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians (NCAFP) as well since the start of medical school. As Family Medicine Interest Group president and while at Wake Forest University, Dr. Hondros served on many state committees, even as a student representative. He later served on the NCAFP Foundation Board as a resident and later a physician member. He is currently serving on the NCAFP Board as President and Chaired the NCAFP Winter Meeting in Asheville in 2017 and Spring Symposium in Charlotte in 2020. He has continued to be active within the Academy through medical student activities as well as being a master preceptor, a community preceptor, and a scholarship applicant review committee member.
Dr. Hondros is married and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, hiking, and fishing in the mountain areas of NC with his family. His Greek culture and Orthodox Christian faith are important to him as well. He is also fluent in Spanish and Greek.
