Wanda Godfrey, MD is a board-certified Family Physician and Primary Care Doctor with Avance Care in Cary, North Carolina.

She grew up in Massachusetts and graduated with honors from Boston University in 1982. She then became a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone, West Africa for two years. While there, she lived in a small, remote village and assisted local villages in water well and latrine construction projects, vaccinations, child and maternal health campaigns, etc. It was during this time, surrounded by so much unnecessary suffering and death, that she was inspired to become a doctor.

Dr. Godfrey then attended medical school at the University of Massachusetts and did her residency in family practice at Georgetown in Washington, DC. During the last year of that residency, she was recruited to go back to Sierra Leone and work with the Red Cross to establish and assist several clinics for displaced people and refugees during their terrible civil war.

After marrying an emergency physician who was stationed in NC with the Air Force, Dr. Godfrey moved to NC and began working as a family physician in Johnston County in 1993; first with Johnston Memorial and then with FastMed. She loves working with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds and especially families, long term, to help maximize their health and well-being.

Dr. Godfrey has raised three wonderful children who are all currently in college or medical school and loves traveling with her children as often as possible. Some countries they have traveled to are India, Australia, Thailand, Cyprus, Tanzania, Scotland, Italy, and Switzerland.
