Debra Parker, MSW, LCSW is a graduate of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work and has an undergraduate degree from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.  She has been working as a clinical social worker for almost 12 years and has had a variety of clinical experiences, from intensive in-home services to outpatient, individual, and group therapies.

In her practice, Debra focuses on helping people to free themselves from the effects of difficult, early and ongoing life experiences. She uses an empowerment perspective to help people identify and reinforce their own personal strengths. She finds that the therapeutic relationship is the most important tool to help people heal and grow. Debra’s work is informed by psychodynamic principles and an interpersonal psychotherapy model. She also implements cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy strategies. Debra has vast experience working with clients with trauma and mood disorders. She also has treated many people struggling with eating disorders, self-injury, domestic violence, and personality disorders. Debra speaks Spanish and has a strong interest in working with Hispanic communities. As a social worker, Debra finds tremendous benefit in assisting people with identifying various forms of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.) and understanding how these impact their lives.

Debra ‘Debbie’ is originally from Southeastern, Pennsylvania. She moved to Durham, North Carolina after college and has lived there ever since. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, spending time outdoors, playing board games, reading, swimming, and playing with her cat.
