Virginia “Ginnie” Barringer, MS, RD, LDN, CDCES, BCADM is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) at Avance Primary Care in the Midtown Charlotte area of North Carolina.
She is board-certified in Advanced Diabetes Management (BCADM) and has multiple certificates of training in child and adult weight management. She has volunteered with the American Heart Association multiple years for an “Iron Chef” style culinary program for children, utilizing her culinary degree. Presently, Ginnie serves as President of the Metrolina Association for Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and has previously served as president of the Charlotte Dietetic Association. She also served on the board for the North Carolina Chapter of Les Dames D’Escoffier as a founding member.
Ginnie has previously worked at both Novant Health Heart & Vascular Institute and Atrium Health for a combined 23 years. She has a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition and is also a Les Dames d’Escoffier International Chef (a philanthropic organization for female chefs/leaders). Her areas of nutrition expertise are diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention, assisting patients in managing pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, weight management, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and wellness. She enjoys working with families, adults, adolescents and children.
Philosophically, the prevention of disease is a primary focus in her practice, and her culinary skills are key to helping patients move toward a more plant-based eating pattern. Most important to Ginnie is meeting the patient where they currently are and providing the resources to help them lead the way on their path toward wellness.
Ginnie lives in Charlotte with her husband, Tom, a physician specializing in preventive cardiology. They have 5 children who have all flown the coop, so they now have more opportunities to enjoy traveling, the beach, hiking, exercise, cooking, reading and music.
