Sara Heikal, DNP, FNP-C, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner seeing patients at Avance Care in Garner, NC. She is dedicated to preventive care, patient education, and helping individuals take an active role in their health.
Sara earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and began her career in the intensive care unit at Duke University Hospital. Caring for patients with advanced complications of chronic disease inspired her passion for prevention, health literacy, and shared decision-making. She later completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in family medicine at East Carolina University.
She approaches primary care as a collaborative partnership and provides whole-person care that supports physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. She is passionate about engaging individuals as active participants in their health, serving as a guide and resource to help them make informed choices.
Sara is committed to health equity and inclusive care, with special interests in women’s health and wellness, LGBTQIA+ and gender-affirming care, and person-centered care across the lifespan. She is fluent in Spanish and Arabic.
Outside of the clinic, Sara enjoys spending time with her husband, their German Shepherd puppy, Nyx, and their Golden Retriever puppy, Comet. She enjoys staying active, hiking, long walks, and trips to the beach.
