John “Ben” Johnson, MSN, APRN, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner serving patients at Avance Broad Street in Durham, NC.
Ben obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from North Carolina Central University and then went on to get his Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Simmon’s University. He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has been a healthcare provider at Durham Family Medicine for nearly two years. He worked for just short of five at UNC’s Jaycee Burn Center as a staff nurse and unit leader. Coincidentally, prior to his time at UNC, he worked as a registered nurse for Durham Family Medicine as part of the clinical care team.
Ben’s care philosophy is driven by evidence-based guidelines of medicine, while also being very heavily influenced by functional medicine. Lifestyle and dietary intervention are central to Ben’s plans for managing acute and chronic conditions.Ben’s areas of interest within his career include functional medicine, muscle-centric medicine, and both atherosclerotic and cardiometabolic disease prevention, and his personal interests are his lovely wife and four children.
Outside of work, he spends most of his time with them hiking, and playing, and very much enjoys weightlifting.
