Elizabeth “Libby” Rains, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist providing evidence-based care for her patients at Avance Care in Wilmington, NC.
Libby obtained her Master of Social Work from the University at Chapel Hill. Libby specializes in counseling with children and their families, as well as with young and middle-aged adults. Understanding that no two life journeys and experiences are the same, Libby utilizes a systems and strengths-based approach, working collaboratively with patients to identify and build their own specialized “coping skill toolbox.” With her pediatric patients, she often utilizes play and art-therapy-based approaches, including incorporating family or caregivers into sessions as well. Libby has specific training and interest in ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Depression. Many of her patients have complex medical histories or chronic diseases. Libby also works extensively with patients in college, as they navigate college life and transition into young adulthood.
Libby has experience both in community mental health and private practice. Perhaps, her greatest education experience or “life training” has been parenting two children with complex needs. Because of these life lessons, Libby truly understands the unique strengths and needs of the very special children and families she enjoys helping.
Originally from the Charlotte region, Libby, her husband, and two young adult children moved to Wilmington in 2020 to enjoy the coastal life and pace. Outside of work, Libby enjoys spending time with family and friends, often exploring nature and history in Wilmington and the surrounding areas. Additionally, she enjoys traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, antiquing, playing board games,bocce ball, and doing various art projects, like rehabbing furniture.
