Elizabeth “Libby” Rains, MSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing evidence-based care for her patients at Avance Care in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Libby has over 30 years of experience supporting children, teens, adults, and families. Understanding that no two life journeys and experiences are the same, she enjoys working with individuals who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward in life.

Libby genuinely understands how isolating these experiences can feel and works to create a space where clients feel comfortable, understood, and supported. She focuses on meeting clients where they are and helping them move forward toward the goals that matter most to them. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, stress, burnout, grief, complex health issues, chronic pain, and life transitions.

She has a special interest in supporting neurodivergent clients of all ages, helping them better understand themselves while building practical skills to manage everyday stressors. Libby uses a collaborative and practical approach to therapy, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and interactive play-based therapy techniques when working with younger clients and their families.

Libby also works with families to improve communication and strengthen relationships, recognizing the importance of supportive connections for overall health and well-being. She believes therapy should feel like a partnership and works alongside clients to identify their strengths, build coping skills, and create individualized, meaningful changes that improve daily life and relationships. Her goal is for each client to leave therapy feeling more confident, capable, and supported.

Libby earned her Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, she moved with her family to Wilmington in 2001. When not working with clients via telehealth or in the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as gardening, shelling, thrift-store hunting, decorating, and cooking, bringing creativity and curiosity into both her life and her work.
