David Thies is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Originally from Oklahoma, Dr. Thies earned his bachelor’s degree from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand prior to attending Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, graduating summa cum laude. He then completed residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Prior to joining Avance Care Durham, Dr. Thies spent 25 years providing primary care services in Alamance County, including preventive care, acute care, and management of complex chronic diseases. He is excited to be bringing that experience to the team at Avance Care. He believes in being thorough, respectful, and compassionate with all his patients. Dr. Thies finds it rewarding to provide care to patients of all ages, including multiple generations in a family. He is fluent in Thai and Lao.
In his free time, Dr. Thies enjoys motorcycling and spending time working outdoors. He and his wife, Sue, have two adult sons.
