Avance Care Behavioral Health

• 1.5-hour group will meet every other week for 8 weeks

Our Behavioral Health Therapists provide psychoeducation and facilitate supportive interactions between participants in a safe and intimate space. The foundational theories and methods taught in this group include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness Practice. Additional methods including Pain Reprocessing Therapy will be introduced.

We encourage in-person group participation, however this group will be delivered through both in-person and virtual means for the convenience and accessibility of our participants.

Movement has been proven to be beneficial for our bodies in so many ways, including mental and physical health. Our Certified Therapeutic Yoga Instructor and Licensed Clinical Therapist has designed an incredible movement program that is appropriate for every ability level.

This group is designed as a closed group and will be made available to all participants engaged in therapeutic programming through Avance Care Behavioral Health at the Avance Centers of Excellence.

Train your brain to begin each day with intention and positivity through the use of mindfulness skills. Increasingly, more studies are demonstrating the numerous benefits of learning to live mindfully including:
1. Reduction of uncomfortable feelings associated with depression and anxiety
2. Increased skills to connect with ourselves periodically throughout the day so that we can hear and honor what our bodies are telling us
3. Improved social interactions
4. Improved sexual encounters
5. Improved sleep hygiene and the quality of sleep

Each session will begin with check-in and a new mindfulness activity to practice. We then delve deeper into the science and philosophy that drives the exercise. Finally, we will end with a group processing discussion. Sessions will last 1 hour and will be delivered virtually every other week for the 12 week cycle.

Recent research has shown that pain is often the result of learned neural pathways in the brain. PRT targets primary (neuroplastic) pain by shifting patients’ beliefs about the causes and threat value of pain.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy has five main components:
1. Education about the brain origins and reversibility of pain,
2. Gathering and reinforcing personalized evidence for the brain origins and reversibility of pain,
3. Attending to and appraising pain sensations through a lens of safety,
4. Addressing other emotional threats, and
5. Gravitating to positive feelings and sensations.

PRT is unique from other treatment modalities in that it offers exposure-based treatments. PRT places an emphasis that painful activities are not injurious, it emphasizes on reappraising pain sensations and reattributing the causes of pain.
