Are you passionate about making a difference in the field of behavioral health?
Our primary care practice is seeking talented and dedicated graduate school counseling and social work interns to join our team!

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with clients and have your own caseload. You will be able to provide individual and group counseling and learn a wide range of clinical knowledge from our experienced professionals. You will be collaborating with a diverse set of peers who all have different specialties. There are 90+ therapists on the team!

This collaborative environment will enrich your learning experience and expose you to a wide range of approaches and perspectives in behavioral health. We believe in providing our interns with a supportive and growth-oriented environment. You will have access to supervision and guidance from experienced professionals who will help you develop your skills and knowledge in behavioral health. You will also have opportunities for professional development and networking, ensuring that you are well-prepared for your future career.

Our Behavioral Health internship program is designed to accommodate the specific needs of graduate students, offering flexible durations to align with your academic requirements. Whether you’re pursuing a practicum or a full internship, we provide structured timelines that support your professional growth while ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

Application Process

How to Apply:
Schools and students interested in placement with Avance Care are encouraged to reach out to the Internship Program Manager by completing the internship program interest form. If there are positions available, applicants will be contacted for a virtual interview.

Required Documents:
Upon acceptance, students must submit a resume, background check, proof of Hep. B immunity, a TB screening done within the last year, and liability insurance. Additional training on ethics, HIPAA compliance, and bloodborne pathogens will be provided through Avance and Relias Learning.

Application Deadlines:
Applicants are encouraged to reach out as early as possible. The deadline for applying is at least 60 days before the semester begins, provided an Affiliation Agreement is already in place. If an agreement is not in place, allow an additional 1-3 months for the process.

Yes, we accept students at all levels—1st Year, 2nd Year, and Advanced Standing.
Currently, we can accept up to two students per school, as we collaborate with multiple universities.
While we do not have a formal application, we do require prospective interns to schedule an interview to determine if the placement is a good fit.
Yes, a criminal background check is required. Interns must also complete our ethics, HIPAA compliance, and bloodborne pathogens training, provided through Relias Learning. Additionally, they must provide proof of Hepatitis B immunity and a TB screening conducted within the past year. Liability insurance is also required; if not provided by the academic institution, the intern must supply it, and a copy must be kept on file.
Interns at Avance Care will gain substantial clinical experience while working with our Behavioral Health team. They will observe and participate in various counseling sessions, including individual, family, and couples therapy, under the guidance of a supervisor. Interns will receive comprehensive training in clinical documentation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and case management. As they progress, they may be given the opportunity to conduct sessions independently, which will be recorded and reviewed with their site supervisor. Additionally, interns may assist with group therapy and participate in monthly departmental meetings, offering exposure to organizational dynamics and interdisciplinary collaboration.
We offer hybrid placements, allowing interns to observe and participate in both in-person and telehealth counseling sessions, provided the client consents.
Yes, we have site supervisors who are LCSWs, LCMHCs, and LMFTs, all of whom provide both clinical and task supervision for our interns.
Yes, we use a standard Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) that our legal department will send to the school for approval and signatures. If the school's legal department requests edits or changes, we are open to negotiation. All communication and documentation related to the MOA will be managed by our Talent Acquisition Coordinator. We recommend starting the MOA process as early as possible, as it can take some time for negotiations to be finalized.
