Avance Care Behavioral Health

Adolescent DBT-Informed Group

Starting This Fall, from 6:00-7:00 PM

Life can feel overwhelming sometimes. This group is a space for teens to learn real-life tools to handle stress, big emotions, and tough situations. Together, we’ll explore the DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) model in a way that’s easy to understand and use every day. In this group, you’ll learn how to:

  • Stay present with mindfulness
  • Understand and manage emotions instead of feeling controlled by them
  • Cope with stress in healthy ways
  • Build stronger friendships and relationships through better communication.

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about learning skills that actually work. You’ll get support, practice new strategies, and connect with other teens who “get it.”

What is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral treatment that focuses heavily on mindfulness and experiencing life as it is as opposed to how we would like it to be. DBT was developed by Marsha Linehan in the early 1990s to treat chronically suicidal individuals, many of whom were diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

A dialectic is when two opposing things are true at the same time. In DBT, the primary dialectic is between acceptance of a person as they are while also acknowledging the need for change in order to improve an individual’s circumstances and well-being.
