Joanne Fruth, MD
Joanne Fruth is a Board-Certified Family Physician with over 25 years of practice experience. She grew up in Northwest Ohio and attended the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. She completed residency, followed by a Faculty Development fellowship in Seattle at the University of Washington – Swedish Medical Center. She met her husband of 26 years, an emergency physician, during residency. They moved to Japan for three years where Dr. Fruth worked for the US Navy in Yokosuka, Japan.
Following the end of her husband’s military commitment, the couple settled in Oxford, NC and raised their three children. Dr. Fruth worked for Duke Medicine and Granville Health System while enjoying the warmth and friendships of a small Southern community. While in Oxford, she volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Granville County Schools, and Granville Little Theatre. She founded Broadway and Beyond Theater Camp and Teenworks Theater Camp – day camps still held every summer in Henderson, NC. She also founded the annual Turkey Trot – a 2-mile walk/run held annually on Thanksgiving Day in Oxford, benefiting the Food Bank.
Dr. Fruth and her husband moved to Raleigh in 2012, where she worked at WakeMed Urgent Care. Her love of family medicine called her back to primary care. She is competent in guiding patients through complex medical problems, skilled at performing minor surgical procedures, and committed to caring for patients of all ages. After working for several medical systems, she is excited by the innovative approach of Avance Care, especially its model of efficiency, easy access, and transparency.
When not at work, Dr. Fruth is on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Theater, hiking in the beauty of North Carolina, cooking vegan food, singing, or gardening.
