Leah Hawkins is a board-certified Physician Assistant. Prior to joining Avance Care, Leah had two years of experience with Novant Health in both Charlotte and Salisbury, NC working mostly in family medicine and some in an urgent care environment. She grew up in High Point, NC and moved to Charlotte to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she earned a degree in biology with a concentration in microbiology. She then stayed in the area to obtain a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from Wingate University, where she also served as a representative for her class to the Student Association of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Leah chose the field of medicine after being inspired by several remarkable physician assistants in family medicine whom she shadowed. After seeing the toll of chronic diseases dealt with by several of her own family members, and after having a baby in the NICU for one month, she hopes to use her own experiences from the patient side of medicine to make her a more understanding medical provider. Her goal is to practice evidence-based medicine while also taking into consideration patient individuality.
Leah recently moved to the Chapel Hill area to be closer to her husband’s family. She met her husband in Charlotte, NC and was married in Ayr, Scotland in 2017. Her free time is spent gardening, listening to podcasts, going to concerts, and taking care of their daughter. She is passionate about traveling and learning about other cultures and ways of life.
