Karen Lavieri is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She attended Johnston Community College to obtain an associate degree in nursing and completed her bachelor’s degree at Winston Salem State University. She later obtained her master’s degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Karen is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing.
She started her healthcare career 17 years ago. Prior to joining Avance Care, she worked in outpatient, long-term, and acute care. She was a staff nurse in the neuro intermediate care unit at WakeMed for 6 years and cared for patients that suffered from stroke, brain injuries, spinal disorders, and other neuro and cardiovascular diseases. Karen has experience in various backgrounds including medical-surgical, neurology, trauma surgery, mental health, internal medicine, and orthopedics. As a National Health Service Corps Scholar, she has served as a primary care provider in Eastern North Carolina in the community rural health setting and has cared for vulnerable populations including veterans, migrant farm workers, and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. She believes in a holistic approach in patient care while incorporating evidence-based principles in clinical decision making. She works with her patients in reaching their healthcare goals and has interests in health promotion, chronic care management, and mental health. Karen is originally from the Philippines and fluent in Tagalog.
In 2006, Karen moved to North Carolina from New Jersey with her family. She loves learning about the world around her by trying new foods, music, and traveling. In her spare time, she enjoys doing activities with her husband, two daughters, and their dog, Thor.
